Zelensky: This is one of Moscow’s biggest failures

President Volodymyr Zelensky is convinced that ending the transit of Russian gas to Europe is one of Moscow’s biggest failures.

“When Putin took power in Russia more than 25 years ago, annual gas transport via Ukraine to Europe amounted to more than 130 billion cubic meters. Today, the transit of Russian gas is zero. This is one of Moscow’s biggest failures,” Zelensky emphasized. his Telegram account.

As the President of Ukraine wrote: Transforming energy carriers into weapons and cynical energy blackmail have deprived Russia of the most attractive and geographically accessible market for it.

“Given the circumstances, the absolute majority of European countries have successfully adapted to such changes. Today, our common task is to support Moldova in the period of energy transformation. We also have to endure the hysteria of some European politicians who prefer Moscow’s mafia schemes instead of a transparent energy policy,” Zelensky noted.

The Ukrainian leader also expressed great hope for an increase in the supply of American gas to Europe, which was discussed by newly elected President Donald Trump. Zelensky added:

“Through collaboration and maximum supply from partners on the market, we can increase price comfort.”

End of Russian gas transit

As announced, the Russian company Gazprom stopped gas exports to Europe via Ukraine in early 2025. At 6 a.m. (Polish time), the five-year agreement between Moscow and Kiev on gas transit through Ukraine expired. Previously, Kiev repeatedly refused to renew the contract.

Kiev’s actions led to a political conflict with the authorities in Bratislava. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has leveled accusations that Russian President Vladimir Putin ordered Slovak Prime Minister Robert Fico to “open a second energy front” and provoke a conflict with Kiev in the energy sector.

In response, the Slovak Foreign Ministry published a statement on the issue, rejecting Zelensky’s “groundless fantasies” about a “second front” and “imaginary alliances with Vladimir Putin.”
