Sustainability is not a strategy, but a cornerstone of the action that guided Barilla since its foundation. Presented in more than 100 countries with 30 globally located production areas, the company continues to seek a view focused on ensuring quality diet and maximum attention to environmental responsibility. Through its mission “the joy of food for a better life”, the food group carefully selects the stories -and privileges sustainable supply chains, never neglecting their commitment to people and the planet. Barilla’s path in the evaluation of the environmental impact translates into concrete strategies to face the challenges to minimize it. In this direction, the company constantly invests in technological and innovation solutions to reduce greenhouse gas emissions, promoting the use of renewable energy and the adoption of more sustainable production models. A clear goal: accelerating the energy transition, ensuring a balance between growth and environmental responsibility.

BARILLA ENERGETY STRATEGY – Since 2004, Barilla has made a continuous and structural energy program, in which factories share and implement the best technological and management solutions for efficient the energy performance of the websites. Parallel in recent years, it has gradually increased the use of renewable sources electricity in various brands in its group; In Italy, this occurs in Mulino Bianco, Pan Di Stelle, Grantale and Barilla sauces, which use 100% electricity from the renewable source bought with guarantees of origin or self -produced by photovoltaic systems. In particular, Mulino Bianco in the last 5 years has chosen to provide exclusively hydroelectric power produced by the system powered by Lake Resia: Thus, all products report a specific logo in their packages confirming this commitment. In all Italian folders, however, the company has equipped with high performance trignification systems that reduce the use of fossil fuels compared to the purchase of the national network, allow you to reduce environmental impacts, improving energy efficiency and increasing the energy independence of their productions. In confirmation of all this, in 2024 he invested in all its places more than 10 million euros in energy efficiency projects, renewing their wheat systems and for the installation of photovoltaic systems for self -production energy from the renewable source. Investments in photovoltaic systems have made it possible to triple the self -production of renewable electricity in their Italian production sites, in particular through the installation of two new photovoltaic systems in Rubbian Fornia (PR) (0.3 MWP) and the Sweet Song Production Plant (1.5 MW). The last system installed in 2024 allows in the summer period, in which the productive peak of basil pests is recorded, to cover the energy needs of 1 day production per week, thanks to self -produced renewable electricity.

The future – Also for the future Barilla confirms his commitment to renewable energy, providing further triple to 2026, the installed energy, reaching about 9 MWP, with new plants in the bakery factories of Melfi, Ascoli and Cremona and Passificio di Fogia. These interventions are part of a broader plan of energy and environmental strategy throughout the group, aligned with the renewal and strengthening of Barilla’s commitment to Science Based Initiative (SBTI) to contain the increase in global temperature below 1.5 ° C as required by Paris agreements. To ensure, in addition, transparency in its environmental performances, Barilla has joined the initiatives promoted by the Carbon Disclosure Project (CDP) for several years, reporting the environmental results achieved and increasing awareness of the impact of its strategic plan.
