Accelerating job creation is Barranquilla’s challenge: Minhacienda

The Atlantic economic growth in 2021 it was more than 7%, the finance minister assured, Joseph Manuel Restrepowhich emphasized the good sector figures of the department.

“We see exports growing by 46%, industry and commerce by 16% and sales of new homes by 70%, these are very positive dynamics,” the minister said in an interview with EL HERALDO.

It is added that the increased turnover of the department was 18% in 2021 and in Barranquilla 32%, which translates into a fiscal improvement.

However, Minister Restrepo stated that it is necessary for Barranquilla to “step up the pace” to generate more employment. “There is an opportunity to do this as Barranquilla and the Atlantic are attractive for investment and nearshoring,” he explains.

In the sectors that see opportunities for job creation, the industry, agribusiness, foreign trade and the export of, among other things, knowledge-based services.

“The gamble is to generate more employment and this can be achieved with the export vocation, strengthening education systems and capitalizing on entrepreneurial talent that accompanies it with funding sources,” he added.

He recalled that the department has $2.6 billion this year for investments within the General budget of the nation, a figure that is 59.7% higher than in 2021.
