If you visit Utrecht, you will see that the beer days of 2.50 euros are over. A beer quickly costs 3.50 euros for 0.2 liters; a modest amount. For some partygoers, that doesn’t matter.
A woman partying in the square said: “Isn’t 7 euros for two beers a lot? But it’s only King’s Day once and now we can go again,” he said. A child adds: “I watch prices. Everything gets more expensive. But today I don’t drink less. I see the damage tomorrow.
‘These prices are not normal’
For others, high food prices are a reason to go to the supermarket. Tom, 41, from Stadhuisplein, says he’s missing out on beer because you can’t bring your own drinks inside the gate. “I have a box from home in my pocket because these prices are not normal.”
Bar owners, who do not want to be named, say they cannot avoid price increases. After all, everything has become more expensive for them: from the gas bill to the staff.
