Offshore wind generation will help create 50,000 jobs

Barranquilla is consolidated as the energy capital of Colombia by being a pioneer in the development of energy generation projects in wind farms offshore.

This was emphasized by President Ivan Duque which ensured that the city has become a hub for unconventional renewable energy sources.

“Barranquilla is no longer La Arenosa but The Energetics”, confirmed the chairman during the presentation of the roadmap for offshore wind energy.

He said this is a commitment for the future, framed in the energy transition process. “What we see today in Barranquilla is historic, the roadmap for the development of offshore energy in Colombia is launched,” he explained.

He recalled that at the beginning of his administration he received an installed generation capacity with unconventional renewables of 28 megawatts and by the end of this year the country will have more than 2,800 megawatts.

In addition, it is expected that in the next two years: 4,500 megawatts plus.

“In four years we will have the first offshore park in Barranquilla. In a nutshell, Colombia is a leader in the energy revolution in Latin America,” he added.

He argued that the development of wind generation offshore logistics and services and this is a great opportunity for the city and the Caribbean coast.
