Energy suppliers are currently not expecting and showing no new customers. They don’t advertise and there isn’t much to choose from on comparison sites. Ben Woldring, founder of gaslicht.com, said in a conversation with NU.nl that comparisons are still possible and that it is striking that the price differences in new contracts have increased further.
“The price differences we are seeing now are unparalleled,” said Woldring. “The differences are up to 40 percent.” When companies buy gas and electricity, the price they can offer determines, according to the market expert.
Prices for a standard contract that all suppliers must submit range from approximately €4,000 to €7,000 per year, used evenly. “This 4,000 euros was still 2,000 a year ago,” Woldring notes.
The price of European gas peaked at €210 per megawatt-hour in early March after the announcement of sanctions against Russia. It has been fluctuating around $100 for a while now.
hard to change
Many consumers have contracts where the price is fixed for a long time. “But they will end at some point.” And then it is always difficult to switch. Although all providers are compared on the Woldring comparison site, you can really only come to a conclusion with two companies.
“There was none in March,” Woldring says. “Last month it was one and now it’s two.” If trading prices remain the same, he will wait for sellers to signal again.
For standard contracts that every provider has to offer but are often difficult to find, providers can adjust the rates on a monthly basis. “Consumers can also cancel monthly.”
