In the first quarter, more than ten million people traveled to and from the major airports in our country. This means that passenger numbers are still below pre-coronavirus levels.
In the first three months of 2019, more than seventeen million people traveled via Schiphol, Rotterdam The Hague Airport, Eindhoven Airport, Maastricht Aachen Airport and Groningen Eelde. This is evident from figures from the Central Bureau of Statistics (CBS) on Friday.
In each of the first three months, there were more passengers at the airport than in the same month of the previous year. In January and February, 2.8 and 3 million passengers visited our airports respectively, compared to 910,000 passengers in January and 520,000 in February 2021.
In March, 4.2 million people flew to and from the Netherlands, 3.6 million more than in March 2021 and almost 1.5 million more than in March 2020. That year, many countries took corona restrictive measures around March 15 due to the corona pandemic.
