Hundreds of millions of euros are waiting for untraceable pensioners

A spokesperson for pension fund ABP confirms this after the news from De Telegraaf.

This concerns people who are entitled to a pension, but who have not applied for it and therefore cannot be paid out. Pension funds try to get in touch with them.

Address details unknown

For example, the ABP civil servants’ fund does not know the details of the 19,000 pensioners, partly because they have moved abroad. There is still 300 million euros ready for them.

On average, this amounts to about 16,000 euros per person. For example, people who work as student assistants during their studies and thus receive a pension, but do not know what they are entitled to.

Pursuit

ABP, the largest pension fund in the Netherlands, says it is doing its best to find people. A spokesperson says: “Employees have saved money for this. They just have a right to it,” he says.

ABP engages employees to track down people, among other things. According to a spokesperson, an external agency had previously recruited 2,000 participants. “The people found are very happy.”
