Nominal income of travel agents in the first quarter of 2022 was 0.4% higher than in the same period of 2019.
This is reported by the National Administrative Service for Statistics (DANE), which also announced that employment was seriously affected during this period, as the percentage of employed staff registered a negative variation of 43.4%.
The executive president of the Colombian Association of Travel and Tourism (Anato), Paula Cortés, stated that recovery is turning into growth.
“We are proud, because despite the setbacks, the agencies continue to show their strength. They employed fewer staff, but still managed to increase their turnover,” emphasizes the union leader.
According to Anato’s most recent survey of travel agencies, 52% of them carried out actions such as establishing new commercial alliances; 44% designed innovative tourist packages and 42% invested in the digital offering of their products and services.
“Undoubtedly, travel agencies have significantly optimized processes, but these results do not represent a recovery from the pandemic, as the lost or suspended jobs are necessary to meet the demand the travel industry is currently experiencing,” Cortes said.
The foregoing, taking into account that the departure of Colombians abroad and the arrival of foreign visitors already report reactivations of 101% and 72% respectively, in January and March 2022, in addition to the next holiday season in the middle of the year , which require job recovery.
