The food security conditions in Barranquilla and Soledad have improved “significantly” over the past year as the percentage of people consuming fewer than three meals a day fell to 42.6% in the February to April quarter of this year, compared to 61.5% recorded in the same period of 2021 .
The results of the Social Pulse Survey prepared every month by the National Administrative Statistical Service (DANE) indicate that the percentage of the population consuming three meals a day in the Atlántico capital and metropolitan area (Soledad only) reached 57.4% in the February to April quarter. This figure represents an increase of 18.9 percentage points compared to the 38.5% recorded in the same quarter last year.
“Barranquilla, which has always been at the top of the cities with the greatest food insecurity, is making significant progress since it already sees that more than half of the population is able to consume three meals a day, after several months with less than half with this opportunity,” said the director of DANE, Juan Daniel Oviedo.
