In his view, it would be nice if organizations were less strict in determining who gets help and who doesn’t. “Even if you have a good income, you can get into financial problems. So it would be nice if charities lower the support limit, but that of course means more work.”
From the roof to the school
The arrival of Ukrainian refugees is also putting extra pressure on humanitarian organizations. In addition, organizations have expanded their activities in recent years to help more people.
This also applies to Clothing Bank Noord-Holland Noord, formerly Clothing Bank Egmond. “The name change was recent and it shows our growth,” says Erik Guit of the clothing bank. “We started in a small municipality, but now we have reached Alkmaar.”
The clothing bank started in a loft but has since moved to a former primary school. Most of the pieces are used to sort and hang clothes.
Clothing and food boxes
“We’ve definitely grown a lot in the past two months,” says Guit. “Look at the rising costs, the daily groceries, the fuel, the taxes. The need for help is growing and our customer base is growing.”
The organization not only distributes clothing but also food packages to people who do not qualify for food bank aid. The Clothing Bank is now looking for larger facilities.
