Growing disappointment with Hungary: ‘It’s really ugly’

Harbor of Rotterdam

PvdA MP Piri believes that the Netherlands should take a step with Belgium and Germany: the ports of Rotterdam, Antwerp and Hamburg should boycott oil tankers. “It’s already having a huge impact,” says Piri. “More oil is traded in the port of Rotterdam than Hungary buys. Then you have lost 95% of that oil.”

VVD and CDA suspect a boycott without Hungary. “This gives Hungary a free ticket to do it again in the future,” says Brekelmans. A spokesman says he thinks the CDA’s sixth sanction group should be supported by all member states.

European summit on Monday and Tuesday

Prime Minister Rutte speaks of ‘difficult thoughts’, but does not want to say ‘absolutely no’, as it turned out during a debate. A special EU summit on developments related to the war in Ukraine will take place on Monday and Tuesday. Prime Minister Orban has made it clear that he does not want to discuss the sanctions blockade at the summit.
