1 Three injured in collision with recreational car in Valkenburg fairytale forest

Two adults and a child were injured in an accident at the Fairytale Forest amusement park in Valkenburg aan de Geul on Friday afternoon. A tram crashed from an attraction, a spokesperson for the South Limburg safety zone told NU.nl. Police initially said six people were injured, but that is not true.

The accident happened around 2:45 p.m. There were two adults and two children in the crashed car. Three of them were hospitalized. Their condition is stable, the spokesman said. The other person was not injured.

The nature of the injuries is not yet known. An air ambulance was called for the accident, but it was not necessary. The park was occupied at the time of the accident. The spokesperson said there was a moment of panic, but it passed quickly.

The crashed car came from the Ballontoren Calidius attraction. It is a tower with cars that take visitors to a height of about 10 meters. The attraction has been open since September last year. It is not known how the accident could have happened. Calidius is temporarily closed.

The fairytale forest is open on Saturdays

“Management and staff are shocked by the incident and we are deeply sorry that this could have happened,” Park said in a statement late Friday. Fairytale Forest is closed early on Friday. The park is open on Saturdays except Ballontoren Calidius.

The Dutch Food and Consumer Product Safety Authority is investigating how the accident in the Fairytale Forest could have happened. The amusement park itself said it had launched an investigation.
