In the first quarter of the year, the transport of hydrocarbons through the Magdalena River increased. Proof of this are the 422,000 barrels of diesel and gasoline that were produced in the route barranquilla † Barrancabermeja and the 1.59 million barrels of fuel oil between Barrancabermeja and Cartagena, an increase of 9% compared to the same period in 2021.
The Ecopetrol company explained that since late last year, diesel and motor gasoline had been transported across the river and then transported via the pipeline network to urban centers in the interior.
This river operation handles average monthly volumes of 120 thousand barrels in each of the fuels.
At the end of April, a shipment of 594 tons of polyethylene imported from Cartagena. The product was transported by barge to the oil port of Barrancabermeja for later land delivery to the assembly centers.
