Celeste Hagatong and Ana Carvalho lead Banco do Fomento

The government has elected Celeste Hagatong to chair the board of directors of Banco do Fomento and Ana Rodrigues de Sousa Carvalho to assume the position of executive president (CEO), according to a statement to Lusa.

In the note, the Minister of Economy and the Sea, António Costa Silva, indicated that Celeste Hagatong “has a long career in banking and insurance and experience in various sectors of activity, from Corporate Finance and Project Finance to corporate banking”and stressed that “his foresight, leadership and dynamism will be essential to make Banco Português de Fomento the promotion bank of the Portuguese state.

Ana Rodrigues de Sousa Carvalho, in turn, tells: “with a multifaceted experience in banking and insurance, including the commercial supervision of companies and the venture capital area, and his experience will be essential to bring Banco Português de Fomento closer to companies and the financial system”†

Also according to the official, the current CEO of Banco Português de Fomento, Beatriz Freitas, will “end her term”, thanking the manager “all his work, commitment and dedication to the head of Banco Português de Fomento during the difficult period of the launch of the bank, coinciding with the pandemic”†

in turn, “the other members of the Executive Committee of Banco Português de Fomento” – Tiago Simões de Almeida, Rui Dias and Susana Bernardo – “remain in office”, he emphasized.

The minister also indicated that the choice for managers is now “subject to the fit and proper process of Banco de Portugal and of the evaluation process, as well as of the intervention of the Audit Committee of Banco Português de Fomento, so that, with strict respect for the procedures in force, the appointment is made at the General Meeting if the conditions for this are created”†
