4 woman died in canoe accident Veluwemeer, search for man and child stopped

The German who fell into the water with his family on Thursday during a canoe trip on the Veluwemeer has died. An attempt was made to bring him back to life, but in vain, the police reported Thursday evening.

The woman threw herself into the lake with her husband and two children. The search for the father and his five-year-old daughter was interrupted hours later. The police assume that they can no longer be found alive and are now focusing on finding and recovering the bodies.

The other boy, a seven-year-old girl, was found on a buoy, according to the Coast Guard. He’s in the hospital. No explanation was given about his condition.

Around 1 p.m., the police received a report that a child was in the water. A large number of ambulances, diving teams and trauma helicopters have surrendered, a spokesperson for the Flevoland safety zone told NU.nl. Then it became clear that other people fell into the water.

It is not yet known what caused them to end up in the water. It is believed that the family rented a boat and then for unknown reasons the ship broke the water. A faster boat will pass by, according to a spokesperson for the Coast Guard. He said his relatives were not wearing life jackets.
