Ecopetrol and Promigas are the companies that are taking the first steps to hydrogen industry in Colombia with the launch of two pilots who will start working in Cartagena from this Friday.
in refining, ecopetrol operates an electrolyser with a power of 53.2 kW and that will allow testing of the potential water consumption in the processes and stability in the production of this technology.
For its part, Promigas is starting an exploratory pilot project for green hydrogen production and blending with natural gas in transportation and distribution networks, located at the Heroica station in the Mamonal area.
The acts with which these pilots will start have the presence of the President Ivan Duque
“In September 2021, we presented the zero and low-emission hydrogen sheet and barely 6 months later, we are already commissioning the first green hydrogen pilot projects in the country. Our goal is to develop between 2 and 3 GW of electrolysis for the production of zero hydrogen and low emissions in the next 10 years,” said the Minister of Mines and Energy, Diego Mesa.
According to Minister Mesa, it is estimated that the development of hydrogen will enable Colombia to reduce between 2.5 and 3 million tons of CO2 in the next decade, contributing to the achievement of the COP21 targets to CO2 neutrality in 2050.
