Popular economy can be articulated with new technologies: Petro

It is necessary to develop projects to promote associativity as a mechanism for reindustrialization, especially in the agricultural sector, the President of Colombia, Gustavo Petro, confirmed in the context of the conclusion of the Confecamaras Congress held in Cartagena.

“You have to give it more capacity, more opportunities to enter the popular economy and this can be given by associativity and I am convinced of that. Free association seems essential to bolster the popular economy.”

The president said the term popular economy “seems to me a lot more decent than telling half the country’s economy that it’s not legal, and that’s what we’re currently doing with the issue of informality.”

He explained that the country’s popular economy can have formality and informality. “This has quite a few jobs, I’d say half, most of them below minimum wage, and from there comes the survival income, in other words, the search,” he said.

He assured that the economy must be digital, and that this is a capacity that the country must develop in the popular economy.
