Control of petrol smuggling in border areas will increase: Ocampo

Finance Minister José Antonio Ocampo said that with the withdrawal of the proposal to abolish the fuel subsidy in the country’s border regions from the tax reform, mechanisms will be put in place to control and curb petrol smuggling in these regions. .

During the regional dialogue on tax reform with the economic committees of the Senate and the House of Representatives and economic unions taking place this Friday in Cúcuta, Minister Ocampo pointed out that it is necessary to control petrol smuggling.

“The issue of fuel subsidies in border areas has been openly discussed and the government has stated that it supports the withdrawal of the article,” the minister said.

He added that “smuggling needs to be checked” because much of the gasoline sold in border areas ends up in other cities in the country.

“That’s not the purpose of this tax break,” he said.

Ocampo pointed out that an effective control mechanism is needed for the border zone to benefit effectively and directly.
