he inaugurated the September 28 the first building in Milan Zero Net Carbon. Is called Open 336of the civic where it is located in viale Sarca, in the Bicocca, and is the first Milanese building that captures carbon dioxide and releases oxygen. Designed by the architectural firm Park Associates for the American investment company Barings Real EstateOpen 336 represents a model for the sustainable city of the future.
Open 336 behaves like a tree. The ambitious project inspired by high technology reduces environmental impacts and consumption throughout its life cycle. Thanks to the use of innovative technologythe building filters CO2 like a tree, but with a power about eight times greater than the natural one: “We continue to evolve our environmental, social and governance approach – declares Valeria FalconeHead of Value Added Investment in Europe at Barings – “to support value creation in a more sustainable way. We courageously invest in new technologies in the belief that we must and can be more effective in contributing to CO2 reduction“.
The new building in the Bicocca district, in the former industrial zone northeast of Milan, is spread over seven levels for office use, which blend perfectly into the context and are surrounded by greenery. On the fourth and last floor of the building there is a 380 square meters terrace with panoramic views of the city. The peculiarity of the building is that it captures and stores much of the carbon dioxide present in the atmosphere and releases cleaner air and rich in oxygen.
CO2 is captured thanks to Fervo Group’s Eco2Air Filter which is made with material organic and biodegradable, including coffee grounds. The filter fills up after approx. 600 hours of use but then it can be emptied of the accumulated CO2 to function regenerated up to seven years. All consumption parameters are then analyzed via special sensors to always guarantee excellent operation.
