The new stadium of the Metropolitan Municipality of Bursaspor, Turkey, has a giant crocodile head that lights up and is 42 meters tall. After several years of delay, the original crocodile-shaped stadium rises along the Nilüfer River in western Bursa.
Dominating the entire city of Bursa in northwestern Turkey is the new green crocodile-shaped stadium. The shape, designed by Sozuneri Architects, pays homage to the local Bursasporm team dubbed the Green Crocodiles. The stadium was in fact called Timsah Park, which in Turkish means “Crocodile Park” and occupies an area of 40 hectares, almost equal to a green park in the shape of a crocodile.
The crocodile head is the highest point in the stadium and is over 42 meters. The head was subject to a major engineering challenge that was the cause of delays in completing the stadium. This space intends to be a great venue for events/banquets. The interior of the stadium is also distinctive because it has a unique grandstand layout, with the main western grandstand divided into three levels.
The Bursa stadium is spread over an enormous area of 190,000 square meters, of which 50,000 are for commercial and office use. The project also includes an underground car park for more than 640 cars, more than 1,500 outdoor spaces, 35 restaurants, 789 restrooms and 90 access gates. Inside, there will be space for 44,000 spectators.
