Protests in Iran, after the death of the 22-year-old Jina Mahsa Amini, arrested for misusing the veil and allegedly beaten by the Iranian moral police, mobilized the attention of other women in the world who, therefore, wanted to show solidarity with the missing young woman, supporting the demands of the Iranian women they took to the streets. The gesture, which has gone viral these days on social media, consists of cutting a lock of hair.

French stars cut a lock of hair

As Claudia Gerini also did, in a video released on Instagram in the last few hours, some French actresses also decided to record a video in which one by one they cut a large lock of hair. Juliette Binoche opens the video, Marion Cotillard appears soon after and Isabelle Huppert again, followed by Julie Gayet, Charlotte Gainsbourg. In the background, the music is Bella Ciao, an evident symbol of a protest that has been going on for weeks and with which it is intended to shed light on a worrying situation that involves the entire Iranian community, where freedom is now completely under siege.

The death of Jina Mhasa Amini

Last September, Jina Mahsa Amini was visiting Tehran with her family when she was taken in by the so-called Islamic “moral police”, charged with enforcing the dress code imposed on women in the country. Each of them, in fact, must wear the veil which I understand perfectly the head, responding to a law now dated 1970. Jina Mahsa Amini was accused of not having respected this law, because a lock of hair came out of the veil, and it was for this reason taken to prison. During her detention, the 22-year-old was mistreated several times, until she died after a heart attack. Although the cause of death has already been established, the version reported by the police is not convincing, both human rights activists and family members report a beating of young Mahsa by the police.
