This weekend in the UK took place in Royal British Legion Festival of Remembrance, a commemoration commemorating those fallen in the war. The British royal family gathered to testify wreath of flowers for the Cenotaph in London, as is tradition, and to remember the soldiers who died at the front. This year, however, the solemn ceremony took on a double symbolic value: it is the first Remembrance Day without Elizabeth second, disappeared two months ago. The absolute protagonists of the event were the queen consort, Camilaand the new princess of wales Kate Middletonfor the first time together with a public event since the Queen’s funeral.
The first Remembrance Day without Elizabeth II
This time leading the National Remembrance Service was King Charles III, who laid a wreath of red flowers in honor of the Commonwealth’s war dead. He had already taken on this role when Queen Elizabeth was bedridden with a bad back, but this year he did so as the reigning monarch and as commander of the armed forcesdressed in the ceremonial uniform of a field marshal.

The protagonists of the event, however, were his wife Camilla and Kate Middleton. For both, it’s a historic moment: it’s Kate Middleton’s first time as Princess of Wales and Camilla Shand’s first time as queen consort. Therefore, a moving and silent homage to the two women who preceded them in this role could not be missing from their costumes.

The meaning of Camilla’s brooches
Queen Consort Camilla donned a black coat, as protocol requires: it is a time of mourning, one of the few occasions when black is allowed. In fact, mandatory. To be exact, Camilla put her coat on again. Fiona Clara chosen for Elizabeth II’s awakening, matching leather gloves and a handbag Launer London, the late sovereign’s favorite handbag brand. On her head she wore a hat with a veil of Philip Treacy🇧🇷

On her lapel, Camilla had three red poppies pinned to her collar – the flower symbol of the birthday – and two brooches: the Rifle, the marines regiment of which he is colonel-in-chief after the death of Prince Philip, and another minor diamond regiment. The night before, for the show at the Royal Albert Hall, she had chosen a black dress with glittery applications and Von Cleef Arpels earrings.

Kate Middleton’s Tribute to Lady Diana
Kate Middleton decided to honor Lady Diana, from whom she inherited the role of Princess of Wales: she wore a black coat of Catherine WalkerDiana Spencer’s trusty tailoring, and the spectacular pendant earrings with diamonds and pearls from the south seas. It’s one of Lady D’s most treasured (and beloved) jewels. She also has three poppies attached to her lapel, as is tradition.

The night before, for the show at the Royal Albert Hall, Kate Middleton had chosen a black suit from Mrs. Self Portrait with fitted jacket and skirt with fringes. This time the jewelry came from Elizabeth II’s coffin: the precious choker necklace with three pearl necklaces and the Bahraini pearl earrings.

The new Princess of Wales learned a great lesson from the late Queen: on the most challenging of occasions, let the jewels – keepers of memories and affections – speak for you. They know a language that goes beyond time and fashion.
