A Statue of Liberty in Milan

Milan like New York with a Statue of Liberty in the center of a city intersection. The Milanese work does not have the same dimensions as its overseas sister, and is completely fuchsia, but equally full of meaning. This is the latest work created by pop art artist Dicò, who claimed paternity with a post on his social media.

Artist Dicò created a small Statue of Liberty in Milan. “Freedom is not a weapon” is the title of the work that intends to be a social denunciation of the artist against the world powers that exploit the concept of freedom to his liking.

The statue appeared on December 1 in the center of Largo La Foppa in the Moscova area of Milan. The work measures only 2.50 meters, nothing to do with the large dimensions of the American monument, an icon of New York, but it is always a symbol of freedom.

Dicò’s Statue of Liberty is fuchsia in color. The uniformity of color is interrupted by blotches of paint that color the tunic and other parts of the sculpture. The Milanese work differs from the American one only in color and size, but also in that the face of Vladimir Putin was positioned in place of the Goddess Reason in the original version and the torch to the right of the New York statue was replaced by a pistol pointed at the sky.

🇧🇷It always seems impossible until it’s done. Freedom is not a weapon“, are the words of Dicò that accompany the post published on social networks where I review the intervention. The sentence echoes the quotation of a signboard in the arms of the statue and that takes up the phrase of Nelson Mandela, Nobel Peace Prize: “It always seems impossible until it’s done” to which the artist added the rest.
