Christmas has come to royal residences🇧🇷 Tradition was respected and, as every year, estates and castles were decorated ad hoc for the holidays with garlands, lights and various decorations. Inevitable Christmas trees, fir trees that are embellished with great care and skill. This will be the first celebration for King Charles III, who ascended to the throne in September following the death of his beloved Queen Elizabeth. The new monarch wanted to honor his late mother by dedicating one of the royal trees to her.

A Christmas tree for Queen Elizabeth

At Christmas, Windsor Castle becomes a feast for the eyes. The royal residence is completely decorated with a Christmas theme and open to the public, but this year, in addition to respecting tradition, it was decided to do something even more. Queen Elizabeth passed away at the age of 96 after having reigned for 70 years: her death left a great void, she was a beloved sovereign around the world. Their son Charles ascended the throne and consequently Camilla became queen consort: for them it is the first Christmas in these ways. Given the situation, it was decided to dedicate one of the trees at Windsor Castle to Elizabeth II.

In fact, it was decorated with red, purple and gold balls: we are the colors of the late monarch🇧🇷 She was a great lover of riding and horses: her jockeys wore purple dresses with gold details and red sleeves. Not surprisingly, King Charles III wanted these three colors in the wreath placed on the cenotaph on Memorial Day: red, purple, and gold ribbons.

The tree was placed in the crimson roomone of the most suggestive rooms in the castle, which regularly used by the queen for events private. It took four team members two days to fully decorate the gigantic tree: it is 6 meters tall and hails from Windsor Great Park. It was embellished with 3000 bright lights and colorful balls: on top is a statue of an angel. Instead, another was placed in Windsor Castle’s St George’s Hall (the room where Harry and Megan Markle first introduced their son Archie to the world in 2019). Still others can be found in the Crimson Drawing Room, the Inner Hall, the Queen’s Gallery, the Undercroft Cafe and the Admissions Centre.

In the Waterloo Room, however, a Christmas table was decorated, with exclusive historical objects from the Royal Collection. Another emblematic place, traditionally used for Christmas decorations, is the Grand Staircase, where themed garlands were placed. Queen Elizabeth has exceptionally spent her last two Christmases at Winsdor Castle due to the pandemic. King Charles has decided to go back to tradition, for the royal family to gather and celebrate as usual at the Sandringham estate in Norfolk. Windsor Castle decorations will remain visible to the public until January 2nd🇧🇷
