As Christmas approaches, the real family is busy with a series of institutional and official events. Yesterday, for example, the doors of Buckingham Palace were opened for the gala reception with the Diplomatic Corps, an event that was last held in 2019, that is, before the pandemic. To “drive” was there Queen Elizabeth II, now replaced by King Charles. Beside him, his wife could not be missing. Camilawho, in order to “take the place” of the late sovereign, decided to use some of the jewels from the royal collection to which Lilibet was particularly attached: it was what the queen consort exhibited for the social night in the royal palace.

If Kate Middleton went all-in on fiery red for the event at Buckingham Palace, Camilla Parker Bowles preferred the timeless elegance of all-black. We had left it pure white during its last public appearance, today we find it in a dark lady version but with super shiny details and precious overcoat. She wore a long Anna Valentine dress, a model with a wide skirt, long slightly transparent sleeves and matching satin trim on the V-neck. What made the difference, however, were the jewelry: a set consisting of a tiara, earrings and a matching necklace, all encrusted with diamonds and sapphires.

The story of the Sapphire Tiara worn by Camilla

What many certainly remember is that jewelry was frequently worn by Queen Elizabeth II, from her sapphire tiara to her coordinating maxi necklace. It is no coincidence: at the gala event, Camilla “took the place” of the late sovereign, but wanted to honor her with the precious choice of style. The parure has a very particular history: the necklace and earrings were a wedding gift that King George VI gave to his daughter Lilibet (dating back to the Victorian era). Later, the queen bought a necklace with the same diamonds and sapphires as a Belgian princess and mined the gems to set in an early 1960s tiara. After the crown was made, he also slightly modified the necklace and ordered a matching bracelet. Today it was Camilla who inherited the set, who cannot fail to remember the monarch with this “sparkling” choice.
