2022 was marked by the parable of balenciaga: Fashion house group Kering has been overwhelmed by accusations of a shocking campaign featuring children and bondage stuffed animals. Despite internal investigations and apologies from designer Demna Gvasalia himself, the controversies show no signs of stopping: Kendall Jenner she was heavily criticized for wearing the tag in a shootout. Now the brand risks being even more isolated than before and seeing the cult collaboration with Adidas explode.
The cult collaboration between Adidas and Balenciaga
Among the fashion moments that we will remember from the year that is ending is certainly the memorable Balenciaga show on Wall Street. On the occasion, the cult collaboration between the Spanish brand and the streetwear brand Adidas was presented to the world. The collection launched with a stellar advertising campaign featuring Bella Hadid in an office, in the businesswoman version. Logo bags, sneakers and outerwear are already on sale, but some have noticed that not everything is going according to plan.
Product launches have been suspended
The news of the end of the collaboration between the two brands was released by the website specialized in streetwear Freakers sneakers, who published some customer service emails from the brand in a reconstruction article. The message is addressed to those who pre-ordered the capsule collection items: “We have taken the time to re-evaluate our partnership with Balenciaga and have decided to suspend all product launches until further notice. Therefore, unfortunately, we are unable to complete your order.”
Adidas has neither confirmed nor denied the reconstruction of the website: at the moment there is no official note and the debate has only been ignited around the text of the message published by the website. Most likely, however, the brand will have to officially position itself in the coming days: the scandal raised by Balenciaga’s publicity photos also involves the collection Resorts 2023 and the collaboration with Adidas. A tsunami that shows no signs of stopping.
