Mexican pianist Clara Luna is making her music famous on streaming

“Not all people have had the experience of feeling music in a deeper way and my message is that they fill themselves with knowledge of music and also listen to other possibilities of other genres that they are not open to”, is the goal that the pianist Clara Luna pursues as a content creator on social networks.

With more than 43,000 followers on Instagram and more than 7,000 on the streaming platform Twitch, the Monterrey-based pianist believes the most important thing about her broadcasts is for her community of followers to feel confident about approaching the world of music.

“A lot of them are interested in learning and performing, and a lot of those people are people who are already working, who have their profession, their career is different from music, but I like to make them feel like they’re already part of a musical community . and encourage them to do it, that is what is missing in Latin America, there is a lot of talent and a lot of interested people,” he said in an interview.

Although music is a profession that is not highly paid in Latin America, he believes it is important to encourage people to become more involved in this world of music and to become more sensitive to sounds.

“My grandmother was a piano student, but she was a hobby, actually my great-aunts were pianists, and my father was a lyrical musician and he took me to piano lessons from the age of seven, and at thirteen I entered the Monterrey School of Music in Fine Arts and I practically completed my degree until I graduated in 2018,” he explained.

Shortly after graduating, he started creating content on social networks with piano music, an instrument he started playing from the age of 7 and specialized in during his professional training.

“Many content creators have sprung up due to the pandemic, I am one of them. I saw the opportunity in streaming, because the stream can be anything, but it’s dominated by gaming, so I mix music from video games, movies and series,” he said.

In his Twitch content, he plays music from video games, series, movies and classical music.

“I also play classical music in my streams, but it’s very varied. I put everything in it, including theory lessons, but also online, and I play what people want me to interpret,” he said.

For example, he saw an opportunity to play music through social networks and at the moment his career on Twitch is more than a year old, with a response that he considers very good, as his followers request courses through this platform and actively participate.

“I’ve been told by other streamers that my community is very healthy because it’s people who love music and we do a little bit of everything in my stream, not just music, but it’s had a very good response, and I think my community is very healthy and faithful in a way. Today I am very happy with my community,” she confirmed.

The money you receive on social networks, although it is an extra income, is less important than the commitment you feel with your community of followers-

“Positioning yourself as a streamer pianist has helped me to teach online, with groups formed online for music theory or music, so there’s always an open market to take lessons with me, for example, they’ve asked me to partner with a number of brands, music applications music, mobile phone, things like that, it’s a very good opportunity to position who you are as an artist,” he explained.

Due to her presence on digital platforms, she has been approached by people who want to learn music theory or play the piano, for which she has a Patreon page, where interested people can contact her or subscribe to her lessons.

By 2023, he plans to offer a music theory course and upload more content to both YouTube and its subscription platforms.

As a composer she focuses on instrumental piano music. “My method of composition is to think of an image in my head, of what I want to represent with the music, or a feeling or a little anecdote that I have in my head and I try to make an image of it, but of sound , When will I start composing? I go for melodies first and then tone, I can make them long or short, but that’s my way of composing,” he revealed.

“I am composing piano music for my followers because they are asking for a lot of piano music and I am also recording the second album of my band Espejos Rotos, another project that I have in my hands,” he said.

Broken Mirrors, he explained, is a project he’s been on for a year and it amuses him.

He has already performed with this indie rock band in Monterrey, Saltillo and Hermosillo, and they have concerts planned in Mexico City, Guadalajara and Puebla.

“We’re recording the second album and it’s one of my best experiences as an artist right now because I’m a classical musician and it’s a non-classical band, but I’m having a lot of fun and I like it a lot.

Regarding his plans for the future, he said that he would like to perform concerts as a soloist with classical music, or from series and movies, anime, video games and his own compositions, with a more modern concept of what a classical pianist would be. Like it.

“With the pandemic it was a bit complicated because we had nowhere to do it, but luckily we are already on our way out so I hope that will be possible next year,” he added.

Her goal with streaming is to consolidate herself as a content creator on Twitch, as she enjoys being with her community and sees herself as one of the most important streaming artists in Latin America.

“I feel like we’re missing more musician streamers, there aren’t that many of them, and as a more established streamer pianist in Latin America,” he said.

She is a fan of composers like Beethoven, Bach or Dream Theater keyboardist Jordan Rudess, whom she got to interview live for an Instagram broadcast.

“Once I got my Instagram channel and things started to take off, Jordan followed me on Instagram and I immediately messaged him thanking him for following me and asking for the interview. It was a very big experience for me and it was incredible. He was super polite and good people, he made me feel very comfortable and he gave me some very interesting answers about his career and advice for young musicians,” she said.
