When it comes to great fantasy series, The Wizard It is Netflix’s largest to date and has been the model for how Netflix is expanding IP across multiple spin-offs and formats. After two Witcherverse spin-offs, Netflix is working on a new spin-off series focusing on The Rats, a prominent gang within the Witcherverse who will appear in the show’s third season. Here’s the last.
RedanianIntelligence (a regular contributor to What’s on Netflix) was behind the initial report in late November 2022 that Netflix was planning a new spin-off in its fantasy universe based on Andrzej Sapkowski’s books.
It would be followed by two more major spin-offs to date, this being the well-received anime feature. The Witcher: Nightmare of the Wolf and the less well-received limited series The Witcher: Origin of Blood.
According to Redan intelligence:
“We have learned that the upcoming live-action The Witcher spin-off will explore the infamous group of young Nilfgaardian misfits known as The Rats. In the books, the mice appear in Ciri’s story when she’s with them for a while.”
Netflix is even developing a project with the working title/codename RATS, which is believed to be filmed in South Africa and will involve multiple members. The Wizard personnel assigned to the project.
In February 2023, we received even more new details about the new project, courtesy of DanielRPK Patreon, who released the following short synopsis of the project, which is expected to be a new series:
“Six teenage thieves must rely on their criminal skills as they plan the biggest heist of their careers against the most dangerous criminal network in the kingdom.”
He even mentions that the project is now called “Riff Raff” and will be filmed between April and September 2023.
Netflix has yet to officially comment on the project.
Who are the mice in The Witcher?
Rats will feature prominently in season 3 of The Wizard.
According to The Witcher Fandom Wiki:
“The Rats were a young criminal gang in Geso, known for robbing the wealthy for their own material needs, including the best horses, clothes and accessories.”

In April 2022, Netflix announced the first member of The Rats, Christel Elvin, who will play Mistle. Here is his official character description:
“Mistle is a member of The Rats, a gang of young misfits who steal from the rich and give to themselves and sometimes to the poor. She is tough on the street, suspicious of everyone and out for revenge until a chance encounter changes everything.”
Subsequent casts include Fabian McCallum as Kayleigh and Juliette Alexandra as Reef. Aggy K. Adams will play Iskra.
Among Netflix’s other planned projects The Wizard Universe is another anime entry, kids animated entry and seasons 3 and 4 of The Wizard, The third season will come in the summer of 2023.
