Artists often have high expectations of themselves when they want to create something masterpieces and satisfying his audience, but sometimes the paisa didn’t enjoy what he was doing, even on stage.
“I became so exhausted that I hated looking in the mirror, listening to my music, seeing myself in a publication and, most painfully, not liking being on stage. But of course ten years had passed without rest, of concerts, travel, absences and more, which finally took their toll”.
His family played a key role in this difficult process and admitted that they were a great engine that would not go away.
“Fortunately, it’s never too late to talk to someone about a problem. And that’s what I did. I told my mother, my wife, my brothers and those close to me that I was thinking about giving myself a break, that I should take a break from traveling and dedicate myself to rebuilding myself. Everyone’s response, well, almost everyone’s, was wonderful: rest, Juan, we need you with a sound mind and a sound heart. This all happened thirteen years ago when it wasn’t normal to talk about depression let alone if you were a successful artist.
Seeking help when you have depression is a fundamental step on the road to recovery and emotional well-being, and the artist didn’t hesitate to send a recommendation to anyone who’s also trying to fight a battle.
“Remember, we can all suffer from depression, and talking about it is a good way to start fighting depression silent disease and powerful that can end lives. Don’t hesitate to seek help if you need it. There are tools and experts to show you the light and guide you. There will always be someone who is in solidarity with you. Maybe one or the other won’t, but time will put them in their place. The most important thing is that you’re okay.”
Concluding this writing, the singer expressed the satisfaction he feels after struggling year after year to heal, which makes him feel successful and happier than ever before in his life.
“Today I can write these words after many years and much sorrow and I share my story with you. I managed to move forward. I recovered internally. I haven’t gotten over the depression yet, but I’m coping with it much better. And I can say that I am happier and more successful than ever before in my life. I’m proud of myself for making the decisions I’ve made in the past to heal myself, be close to my kids, be a better artist and human being. That is also possible. Come on!”.
