Marvel claims so “The Marvel Universe is home to epic superhero adventures, but beneath the glossy surface lurk dark horrors.” and this art by Momoko “It will highlight the disturbing truths of your favorite characters.” But what “Truths” Is Steve Rogers hiding the fact that they are depicted in this grotesque art? First off, many comics have confirmed over the years that Steve Rogers would rather not be Captain America.

Although Steve considers embodying the American dream an honor and a duty, it also prevents him from living a normal life, literally tearing him out of the 1940s only to wake up in an unknown future. Especially when Scarlet Witch granted Steve Rogers his deepest wish m’s houseIn the warped reality, he retired as Captain America after World War II, married Peggy Carer, and became the first man on the moon. It’s easy to see Peach Momoko’s art as Steve Rogers’ nightmare, trying to escape the “Captain America” persona only to realize he can’t be anything else.

The creation of Captain America began a legacy of terror

Project Rebirth started with Weapon X experiments

Furthermore, although Steve Rogers is a heroic super soldier, his creation sparked a global genetic arms race. The Project Rebirth operation that spawned Cap became Weapon I, the group’s first real success, which became known as Weapon Plus (or Weapon X) and performed gruesome experiments on Wolverine. The exact method of their creation was lost with the death of Doctor Erskine, and over the next few decades each shadowy group modified experiments on humans and mutants to restore success. Momoko’s art depicts new monstrous creatures arising from Captain America, an accurate representation of the age of monsters that followed his creation.

During ‘Weapon’, the group searches for the powers of various Marvel heroes and villains: they upgrade Wolverine and Deadpool, but also experiment with Luke Cage’s daughters, Venom and Emma Frost, the Stepford Cuckoos.

Peach Momoko will soon take over the revamped Marvel Definitive X-Men, creating the mutant corner of their final new universe. If his Nightmare art is to be believed, X-Men fans can expect serious body horror, as well as Captain America Art Exhibition: an in-depth look at the motivations of Marvel’s heroes.

Captain America #4 will be published by Marvel Comics on December 13.
