Fifteenth Doctor actor Ncuti Gatwa reveals how revisiting the Doctor’s past adventures helped him create his own performance before embarking on his own production Doctor who Adventure. The actor made his debut in the series’ third 60th anniversary adventure, The Giggle, where he underwent a rare double regeneration transformation that separated him from David Tennant’s Fourteenth Doctor. Following his first solo adventure in the 2023 season special ‘The Church on Ruby Road’, Gatwa will take on the lead role Doctor who in production through season 14, the 2024 season special, and season 15.
Following the Fifteenth Doctor’s first full adventure in The Church on Ruby Road, the actor revealed Doctor Who: Unleashed how it shaped his actions as a Time Lord. Gatwa stated that in developing his interpretation of the Fifteenth Doctor, he revisited both the classic era and the revived 2005 series to learn how others have approached the character and used him to create his own nuanced take on the figure to develop. See Gatwa’s response below:
I watched some old episodes, some from the classic collection. I’m back to the black and white days. I’ve also done some of the rebooted series. I definitely wanted to evaluate the other doctors’ source and then find a way to make it my own.
The 15th doctor of Ncuti Gatwa has already called previous doctors again

Even though I’m just on the screen the whole time Doctor who In the final episode and act of the third 60th anniversary story, Gatwa’s Fifteenth Doctor has already made several allusions to the Doctor’s past adventures. Not only was the Fifteenth Doctor subject to the universe-altering ‘Mavity Change’ caused by the Fourteenth Doctor and Donna (Catherine Tate), but he also mentioned his long-term relationship with Harry Houdini during his various incarnations. He specifically mentioned a “long hot summer‘ happened to the wizard when he learned to escape from his handcuffs. When the Doctor first spoke to Ruby (Millie Gibson), he also resorted to a well-known paranormal disguise, claiming he was ‘one’.health and safety‘Representative, a favorite of Tennant’s Tenth Doctor.
However, a more comprehensive way in which the Doctor has acknowledged his past lives concerns Ruby’s own history as a foundling. I’m still working on this new story Doctor who In the revelations of season 12’s “Timeless Child,” the Doctor is deeply moved by his new companion’s story and even opens up about his feelings for her and her adoptive mother Carla (Michelle Greenidge). Gatwa’s performance sees the Doctor finally address these issues on screen in a meaningful, honest and heartfelt way, without any deceit involved, and provides a glimpse of a still troubled Doctor as he tries to figure out what this new revelations mean to him. .

The Gatwa doctor who finally recognizes a clear and eternal plot hole in the children’s story
Doctor Who’s Timeless Child has punched several holes in the series’ continuity, and Ncuti Gatwa’s Fifteenth Doctor has now discovered a major hole.
Despite Gatwa’s references to previous doctors, there is no doubt that the actor created his own incarnation. Based on previous portrayals and his own experiences, the Fifteenth Doctor was a creative, caring, and openly compassionate Time Lord who was interested in helping others while also feeling free to finally break down his walls. As such, The Church on Ruby Road left a good impression of who the Fifteenth Doctor is before its May release.
