Warning: contains SPOILERS for Rebel Moon: Part 1 – A Child of Fire (including the extended edition).

Netflix’s decision to release a two-hour PG-13 version of Zack Snyder Rebel Moon – Part 1: A Child of Fire Prior to the 3-hour R-rated extended cut of the film, some character stories were removed from the initial release. While the shorter running time covers the entire plot efficiently, it has been criticized for feeling incomplete and occasionally containing awkward plot cuts to avoid R-rated violence and maintain the PG-13 rating.

When it matters Rebel MoonMore prominent characters like Kora (Sofia Boutella) and Balisarius (Fra Fee) get more development, while characters like Nemesis (Bae Doona) enter the story suddenly and without much fanfare. More details about these characters will be revealed later. Rebel Moon – Part 2: The Scargiver before the advent of the extended cut, but the Rebel Moon – Part 1: A Child of Fire The novella is based on the same script as the extended version, meaning it may include additional details on further character development that can be expected from the full R-rated extended version of Rebel Moon – Part 1: A Child of Fire.

Rebel Moon didn’t have as much character history as you might think

Most of the backstory will be there Rebel Moon – Part 2: The Scargiver.

Some characters in it Rebel Moon – Part 1: A Child of Fire They were given a rushed introduction and it seemed like there was no backstories, but that doesn’t mean they will all get more development in the extended version in summer 2024. Many of their stories have even been saved for research. Rebel Moon – Part 2: The ScargiverTherefore, even the novel lacks some additional details about some of the main characters. Still, several main and secondary characters have major revelations, with the exception of Jimmy (Anthony Hopkins), who has his own character in Veldt.

Noble has more violence (and sex) in the longer R-rated version. Rebel Moon

Opening scene of Admiral Atticus Noble (Ed Skrein). Rebel Moon – Part 1: A Child of Fire was a chilling introduction to the character, but Zack Snyder has already teased that the extended cut’s alternate opening scene was “totally Ed.” [Skrein]”, and the novel offers an even darker look at how brutal Noble can be. Noble’s new opening scene, set months before Noble arrived in Veldt in search of grain, shows the Admiral landing on the planet Toa in search of the Bloodaxe brothers. When the king refuses to cooperate, Noble decimates the entire planet and brutally and sadistically murders the royal family, making his arrival on Veldt even more terrifying.

In addition to the new opening scene, Noble gets some additional character development, including a much more explicit look at his hookah smoking and his relationship with the tentacle creature seen in the PG-13 version. While the PG-13 version suggested some sort of sexual intent behind the tentacles, the extended version makes her relationship with the creature much more explicit, awkwardly taking full advantage of the version’s R-rating.

Aris, the soldier of the empire, is much more important than you thought

Aris was a soldier of the empire with a small role, but his story is much more important.

Aris (Sky Yang), the young Empire soldier on the Veldt who defended Jimmy and tried to protect Sam in the shed before Kora showed up, has much more significance than the PG-13 cut reveals. In fact, he is the son of the king whose family kills Noble in the opening act and forcibly recruits Noble into the Empire’s army. After the other Empire forces are killed and Kora leaves with Gunnar, Aris befriends Sam and Jimmy, giving him a much larger role in the extended version and also preparing him to participate in Veldt’s defense when Noble returns . Rebel Moon – Part 2: The Scargiver.

Jimmy has a completely abbreviated subplot in the longest part of Rebel Moon

The extended director’s cut Rebel Moon – Part 1: A Child of Fire explains at the end why Jimmy has those horns.

In the two-hour PG-13 cut-off Rebel Moon – Part 1: A Child of FireJimmy remains in Veldt when Kora and Gunnar leave to find warriors, and is not seen again until they return, having undergone a full transformation and standing in the field with horned helmet, staff and cape. Extended Director’s Cut by Zack Snyder Rebel Moon – Part 1: A Child of Fire will reveal much more about Jimmy’s story here, about his journey from the farming village to the wilderness in search of meaning, his discovery of the deer carcass and his realization that he is not only controlled by his programming, which gives him a sense of freedom . shall.

Kora’s backstory will contain many more details

Kora’s backstory is much darker than the revealed PG-13 version of Rebel Moon.

Kora has more backstory than anyone Rebel Moon – Part 1: A Child of Fire, but the novel provides additional details about his past and fleshes out much of the story that had already been guessed. For example, in the PG-13 version it can be deduced that Kora played a role in the murder of the King, Queen, and Princess Issa, but in the novella, Balisarious Noble specifically tells you that either Kora or Arthelais killed the King. Cold-blooded family. It’s unclear whether she actually pulled the trigger or whether Balisarius is using her as a scapegoat, but there’s clearly a much more complicated backstory for Kora that has yet to be told.

Rebel Moon’s Big Bad Balisarious is an even more menacing villain

Balisarius has a little more history, but its presence is palpable.

Balisarius is briefly mentioned in Kora’s story before receiving a full revelation about the Astral Plane at the end of the PG-13 version of Rebel Moon – Part 1: A Child of Fire. In the novel, Balisarious is developed much more through Kora’s backstory and a few other mentions. There is still a lot to learn about him Rebel Moon – Part 2: The ScargiverAnd besides, he may still be a great villain, but his looming threat becomes much clearer with the release of Zack Snyder’s R-rated director’s cut. Rebel Moon – Part 1: A Son of Fire.
