Italian police stopped cyber attacks by pro-Russian hackers during the Eurovision Song Contest in Turin. Hacker groups Killnet and Legion tried to carry out cyber attacks during performances and voting in the semifinals and finals, the police reported on Sunday.
Last Wednesday, Killnet claimed responsibility for attacks on the websites of several Italian institutions such as the Senate and the National Health Service. Since the start of the war in Ukraine, Western governments have been particularly vigilant against cyberattacks by pro-Russian hacker groups.
Ukraine won the 66th Eurovision Song Contest on Saturday evening. Kalush Orchestra received a total of 631 points. It is not yet clear whether the next Eurovision Song Contest will take place in Ukraine.
Dutch entry S10 also advanced to the semifinals of the event, which was targeted by hackers on Tuesday. The Netherlands finished in eleventh place.
