Each pair starts with two rings, but if they are not fast enough at some point in the game, they risk losing a ring. In ring play, the slower pair faces off against one or more designated opponents. During this game, the fastest couple keeps their ring. The other couples all hold hands in a single ring. If they lose both rings, it’s game over for them. Only one of the six couples can win the ring race. Price? A dowry of 25,000 euros and the honeymoon of their dreams. The rings that couples wear to each other therefore play an important role in the game.
Rick and Leonie catch the bullet when host Beau van Erven Dorens pretends to be some sort of wedding officiant. “Dear Rick, I am so grateful to know you. And we’ve had good times together. I am really looking forward to going into the future with you.” Leonie explains that Rick, who she has been with for six years, means a lot to her, and she has become visibly emotional. “I want to spend the rest of my life with you,” she said, her throat tightening.
Susan, 37, is the proud mother of two girls with her boyfriend Thomas. The couple, who have been together for almost twelve years, hope to get married soon. Like Léonie, Susan doesn’t stay dry during her speech. After a grueling first run that requires the couples to find the rings and Beau as quickly as possible from the airport, Susan thinks her boyfriend got her through it right. “Honey, I really need what you’ve done for me today throughout this whole adventure. You’re just so comfortable for me. I am confident so I can relax again and then feel like I can be myself. all the way, just to stand next to me,” she explained through tears. Susan calls Thomas the man of her dreams and hopes to get the same support from him for the rest of the show.
At the end of the episode, some couples are forced to return their rings after losing the ring game. 40-year-old Joeri and 50-year-old Renate have yet to keep the track as they finished last in the first race. Patricia, 27, and Bjorn, 33, were selected by the other contestants to take on Joerie and Renate. Also the 27-year-old Sanne and the 29-year-old Bilal are chosen and have to play the game to protect their rings. In the end, Patricia and Bjorn win and the other contestants have to return one ring per pair.
