Cardoneros should look as beautiful as possible in photos. Therefore, the candidates got all the royal qualities that should have been in the picture with the model. Tim den Besten immediately takes the crown to be placed on the head of his model. “Pussy, cat, cat, cat, cat”, she applauds.
Jochem van Gelder doesn’t know what to do with his model. “If I put Emiliano on the balcony, it would be a beautiful sight”, thought Jochem. He soon comes to a different conclusion. “Not royal. In general.” Jochem laughs at his own opinion. “He may be the leader of a country, but a different kind of leader than our king Willem-Alexander.”
Renée Soutendijk wants to take a picture of her smiling model, but then finds out why her model doesn’t like showing her teeth: she only has a few teeth. “They don’t have teeth, so I don’t think they have teeth.” Renée does everything she can to make the model laugh. He shows his toothless smile for a moment, but that is short-lived. “It’s a very comforting smile, but his confidence was more important than a toothless smile.”
Thomas Berge also struggles to make his model laugh. “May I see a smile?” he asks in his best Spanish. “So,” he said, showing his teeth. Miraculously, the model understands what Thomas is trying to say, but it doesn’t feel like a photo of him smiling. Thomas also has problems with his settings, causing his entire shot to go wrong.
Then we go back to Tim, who is now playing with a lamp. His model stands there and seems to think: does this boy have a cardboard sign in front of his head? But luckily he doesn’t. “He really pays attention to what I’m doing,” Tim says. He then asks for technical assistance. And guess what: all you had to do was turn a knob. This way the recordings can take a long time.
The jury is not satisfied with the submitted photos. In Jochem, the jury does not see the sense of pride that a real Cartonero has. Thomas Berge’s qualifications are also being questioned. “I was immediately struck by this photographer’s extremely high ISO,” says William Rutten professionally.
“I see a proud woman, but the light is too bright,” William says of Renee’s photo. “As photography, there is still a lot missing.” The photo of Tim was approved by the jury despite the identified technical defects. “This is a beautiful picture.”
And then someone has to leave Argentina. Between Renée and Jochem. Even though Renée’s photo is better than Jochem’s, she has to say goodbye to the program because on average she achieves lower results due to her first homework photo.
