Corona spread is increasing

75 percent more virus particles in waste water

The spread of the coronavirus has only increased in recent weeks. This is evident from the latest weekly figures from the RIVM.

Last week the wastewater contained 75 percent more virus particles than the week before. Omicron variant BA.5 was most commonly found in wastewater. This has been the dominant variable in our country since June, but BA.4 is also on the rise. According to the RIVM, it is not yet clear whether the new variants will lead to more corona infections.

The number of people admitted to hospital because of Kovid has also increased from 561 to 693. There are now 41 people in intensive care, compared to 38 a week ago. RIVM warns that there is still “limited pressure”. on the care chain and society, but warns that increased risks for vulnerable groups can be expected.

vaccination coverage

From September 19 to October 9, 1.2 million retakes were taken, most of them over the age of 70. The vaccination rate for revaccination is currently 36.2 percent and 38.1 percent for people over 80. The NOS writes that vulnerable groups looking for vaccines are unfortunately offered a vaccine that works against the first omicron variant of Moderna and Pfizer, BA.1. A Pfizer vaccine effective against BA.4 and BA.5 has also been approved since September, so it would be more appropriate for the current outbreak, but will be introduced at a later date.
