“Sweeteners are not a healthy alternative to sugar”

French study sees an increase in cardiovascular disease

Too much sugar is unhealthy, but does replacing sugar with sweeteners help? Like diet soda or sweet yogurt or 0 percent sugar curd? A French study on BMJ questions

Researchers analyzed the eating habits of more than 100,000 people and published the results in the medical journal BMJ. Overall, sweetener consumption was found to be associated with a 9 percent increased risk of cardiovascular disease. The risk of stroke was 18 percent higher. Sweeteners aspartame, acesulfame-K and sucralose in particular increased the risk. Are artificial sweeteners dangerous or unhealthy? What cannot be said about this study, the researchers admit. People who consume too much sweetener may have other unhealthy habits, which is why. You should investigate their eating habits more closely. But the researchers said it signals that the sweetener is not a healthy and safe alternative to sugar. Sweeteners can be found in thousands of foods. They are currently under review by the European Food Safety Authority, EFSA and WHO.
