After the term of his medical incapacity for detoxification and psychiatric control as a result of his alcoholism had expired, Álex Flórez returned to his parliamentary work this Tuesday in the Senate Sixth Committee and apologized to his colleagues.
It should be noted that Flórez has filed for the incapacity of the Legislative Council after a scandal in which he played while drunk in Cartagena.
“I just wanted to express the joy and happiness it gives me to be here on my assignment again. I extend a most respectful and sincere apology to all my colleagues, members of this committee, for the events that have taken place,” the senator said.
The senator of the Historic Pact said the country should start a discussion about the new masculinity and machismo.
“In this new Colombia that is being built, which calls for change and change, of course, must start with me,” said Flórez, who proposed in the legislative work cell to set an agenda to fight machismo.
“Put me at your disposal so that we can work together on a prevention agenda, as the Ministry of Education is on this committee. We have the opportunity to work on a public health and new masculinity agenda that will deconstruct this machismo so deeply ingrained in our society,” he added.
He added: “I want to set an example in the sense that I can deconstruct them and move towards a new Colombia.”
The MP said he is not considering submitting his resignation. “I express my commitment and I will work hard, effort and responsibility to carry out each of the projects led by this legislative cell. I appreciate your solidarity and understanding.”
