The Democratic Center Party, led by former President Álvaro Uribe, presented a document this Sunday repeating and expanding its criticism of the Truth Commission’s final report.
“The audacity to write comes from the audacity of the Truth Commission not to tell the truth in many cases,” the former president warned at the beginning of the text.
It adds that “It should be remembered that the Truth Commission arose from the undemocratic procedure to amend a plebiscite with a Congressional proposal. That is, the popular statement that said no to the plebiscite on the agreement of Havana was ignored by the government of the time, which made some superficial adjustments and led Congress to pass it with a proposal, there was no bill or constitutional reform, just a proposal. This damage to democracy was endorsed by the Constitutional Court, which accepted that a people’s verdict was unknown in that way, the government cleverly introduced in the constitutional norm, with express approval, that if the plebiscite was lost, it could be changed by democratic procedure and then they chose it Congressional proposal”.
