Mario Draghi on the PNRR: the Plan belongs to Italy, all parties must collaborate

Mario Draghi, outgoing prime minister, speaks again about the National Plan for Recovery and Resilience. And he appeals to the parties of the parliamentary arc, to whom he asks for a great collaboration and a sense of responsibility so that the implementation of the guidelines foreseen in the document can be reached as quickly as possible. «The PNRR is not the Plan of a government, but of the whole of Italy and it needs the commitment of all to guarantee its success within the deadline and the objectives set. Italian politics can achieve great results when it collaborates – between political forces of different colors, between central government and local authorities». This was underlined by Prime Minister Mario Draghi, speaking to the National Anti-Mafia and Counter-Terrorism Directorate.

«The National Plan for Recovery and Resilience – stressed the prime minister – represents an extraordinary opportunity to support the economy at a time of slowdown; revive the country after two decades of slow and uneven growth; to show the citizens and our European partners that Italy knows how to invest well and honestly. Thanks to the NRP, we have invested nearly 20 billion in social inclusion measures and introduced reforms and interventions to reduce generational, regional and gender differences. I am thinking of reusing assets confiscated from organized crime by municipal administrations, an important measure to counter the mafia assets. These are projects that bring life and pride to local communities – and that require the collaboration of municipalities, for example in respect of the publicity obligation. To protect investments, we expanded the powers of mayors, intensified controls, strengthened the central body for monitoring, collecting and analyzing information on the risk of infiltration. We anticipate the hiring of 700 people by the competent ministries also to strengthen control activities and support local authorities ».
