Pd, Letta gathers elected dem: “Most will fall apart”

“The honeymoon will end, most will fall apart and we should be ready.” Enrico Letta gathers the elected dem and asks for an “oath”. Immediately, the leader is convinced, it will be necessary to put back in the drawer the ‘degrees’ of those who governed, made decisions, administered power and assumed the role of the opposition, in order to effectively oppose “the government that is more rightist than Italy has ever had”. “We have a historic responsibility, we must assume it and we must commit to making this bad government last as little as possible,” he says.

The secretary, now at the end of his term, seems to be almost in the role of the coach: there are the newly elected ones to motivate themselves and the long-time parliamentarians to prepare for the fact that as ministers, committee chairs or deputies, they will return ‘simple soldiers’. In the beginning, he says to the team gathered in the Berlinguer room, “the satisfactions will be scarce. We are a minority, we will tend to lose all the votes we make and our proposals will be rejected, but the great results will be there. if we are united and build our path of opposition”.

The elective positions to be divided do not allow great balance games and again, explains those who follow the dossier, “the game is open, in an attempt to make everyone happy”. Anyway, Letta decides to speak clearly and reiterates the ‘pink’ nomination for the group presidents. “The asymmetry in this room is evident. The issue of gender representation for me was the biggest setback of these elections and it is necessary to work on a rebalance based on the choice of leaders of groups with two women representatives”.

On pole are Anna Ascani for the Chamber and one between Simona Malpezzi and Valeria Valente for the Senate, “but their names must fit the other positions”, is the refrain. There are the vice-presidents of the two chambers (the names of Debora Serracchiani and Nicola Zingaretti are mentioned in Montecitorio and the outgoing Anna Rossomando and Graziano Delrio in the Senate), the Quaestors and the class secretaries. “I look at this room and I know that here we could easily compose three lists of ministers absolutely up to date and authorized”, and even if “the work that awaits us brings less satisfaction, I ask for your generosity and absolute commitment”. Not only. “Many of you will say: ‘I want to go there’, but not everyone can go to the same place. We will need a compositional work done with an attitude of availability – the sailors are warned – No one will want to force your hand and I guarantee tell you that there will be no chains that impose anything on anyone”, but “if we don’t stay together, if we divide, we will always be a minority”.

Not just the game within the Democratic Party, though. Tomorrow and Friday there will be votes to elect the presidents of the Chamber and Senate (the dem will vote blank, while in the Third Pole there will be vacancies if the name of the center-right is that of Giancarlo Giorgetti) so, starting next week , the risk of collateral assignments and that is where the three opposition parties play a place in the sun. Matteo Renzi starts to attack.

“Today the Democratic Party and the 5 stars, instead of respecting the institutional rules, decided to divide all the guarantee papers, against the natural right of the Third Pole, creating an institutional injury”. For the leader of IV Pd and M5S they are ready to ask for both a vice-presidency of the House and one of the Senate each, effectively excluding the other oppositions. The dem then focused on Copasir and the M5S, the Rai Vigilance, also coveted by the Renzians, while the presidencies of the boards for regulation could go to Iv and Verdi on the left. “Without confusion and without forcing – replies the dem – it’s called parliamentary representation”. Meanwhile, the Third Pole chooses the leaders of the group: Matteo Richetti must go to the Chamber (in Action Action) and Raffaella Paita to preside over the group of senators of the group (in Action Iv).
