National Government Filed Before Congress Changes in Ministry of Culture

An initiative by the national government has been submitted to the House of Representatives to change the name of the Ministry of Culture into the Ministry of Cultures, Art and Knowledge.

This project aims to change the term “orange economy” to that of “Cultural and Creative Economy” in accordance with “the continuous repetitions carried out by international organizations and treaties.

More than a name or reference, this initiative seeks to transform the name of the Ministry of Culture as a starting point, generate a new appreciation for cultures, art and ancestral knowledge, develop programs and projects based on peace, reconciliation and cultural change. for the care of life. All this to implement what was agreed in the Colombian government program, world power of life, horizon of social change in which cultural change is rooted,” said David Racero, president of the Chamber.

In the project, they explain that the argument for that determination was adopted by Law 397 of 1997, which states in its second article that “culture, in its various manifestations, is the basis of nationality and the activity of Colombian society as a whole. , such as a process generated individually and collectively by Colombians, these manifestations are an integral part of Colombian identity and culture.”

They reiterate that this change aims to recognize the diversity of the Colombian people, “their knowledge, their cultures, their heritage, their different experiences and ways of feeling that recognize culture and force them to learn from the important journey of 25 years ministry, but a step further led to the consideration of a Ministry of Cultures, Arts and Knowledge”.

The singer-songwriter Adriana Lucía also took part in the event, who highlighted the changes in the ministry by the government and stated that this sector requires a total transformation.

“It is important that a ministry as downtrodden as that of Culture, which always says there is never any money, that there is no support for musicians, gives it all the relevance (…) More theatres, more music schools are needed (…) people go to Ibagué, for example, and the schools struggle to support themselves”

He added: “Artists are not vases (…) this change is not just a name.”
