L’Aria che Tira, Giarrusso supports Meloni on migrants: “Europe must wake up”

Although the Meloni government, according to what has been declared, is ready to act for the good of Italy, there are still many problems to be solved and one of the most difficult is that of the landings. “There is a moral and legal duty to save people at sea, in accordance with international law”: this is how the European Union expressed itself, through a spokesperson’s comment, on the disembarkation of migrants in the port of Catania. In “L’Aria che tira”, the morning conversation of LA7, Dino Giarrusso is resolute: “The country of first disembarkation cannot suffer this effort”.

Waiting hours on the coast of Sicily. While the government and the opposition continue to challenge each other over the reception of asylum seekers rescued by the four humanitarian ships present in the Mediterranean, the disembarkation of desperate people present on the boats arriving alone in the Italian Sars area continues. Between screams echoing in the Mediterranean, cries for help hammering and high levels of discomfort aboard NGOs, the tug of war between Italy and Europe is increasingly explicit. Giorgia Meloni’s tough struggle against the laxity of European partners is commented on in “L’Aria che tira”, during the episode on Tuesday, November 8, by Dino Giarrusso who, from Catania, was able to personally witness the events. “It is essential to clarify one thing. The issue is not that of relocations. The fact is that people who arrive in Catania or Lampedusa or Pozzallo don’t come to Italy, but to Europe. They are desperate and often in need. The problem is that of means, money, ships, police”.

The ex-hyena and now MEP was harsh and, bluntly, pointed the finger at Europe, accusing the other countries affected by the problem of landings of being lavish and indifferent: “Europe must provide money, ships, men. the country of first disembarkation that will suffer this tension. It is a phenomenon of epoch dimensions. Italy does not have the means to deal with this business of human beings”.
