Born Meloni welcomes Stoltenberg: “Essential alliance for our security”

“I thank Stoltenberg for this beautiful discussion we had and also for having participated in the ‘Cyber ​​Defense Pledge Conference’ that takes place in Rome and that Italy co-hosts together with the United States. This meeting and this participation in the conference confirm Italy’s commitment to NATO and to the common challenges facing the Alliance at this particularly delicate stage”. The statement was made by the Prime Minister, Giorgia Meloni, at the end of the meeting at Palazzo Chigi with NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg.

“The transatlantic and European dimensions are obviously both fundamental to our security. The Alliance is indispensable for the security and prosperity of our nations. Without security there can be no growth for our societies and we must together defend the common values ​​of our identity. this is what we are committed to doing”, underlined Meloni, receiving thanks from the NATO secretary. “Thank you for your strong commitment to NATO. Italy is one of the founding countries of our Alliance and has a fundamental role” said Stoltenberg, reiterating the collaboration with our country: “Italy can always count on NATO and I know that NATO can always count on Italy”.

The war in Ukraine is among the topics at the meeting table between the two. “In a context where we know that peace is not something that we must take for granted, but it is something that we have to work for and that requires us to be ready to defend ourselves effectively. In this context, I reiterated to Stoltenberg that Italy supports forcefully, in the face of our main challenge at the moment, the territorial integrity, sovereignty, freedom of Ukraine”, Meloni told Stoltenberg. In Ukraine “at the moment, the unprecedented support of NATO and Italy is making a difference in the battlefield”, underlined the Secretary General of NATO, in a joint statement with Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni at Palazzo Chigi.
