At the end of the vote, the Minister of Finance, Jose Antonio Ocampothanked “the coordinators, speakers and facilitators, and the broad support of the government coalition for this project, which has also gone through a long process of conciliation and debate. The project makes an important contribution to the social programs that will be funded by this resources and a redistributive effect, the elimination of tax breaks that created inequality and strong support for micro-enterprises”.
He also stressed the reform’s “sound taxation and the contribution of sectors in it economic boom from oil and coal to government spendingand emphasize the anti-circumvention controls and that allows resources as great as those of the reform itself”.
In turn, the Minister of the Interior, alfons pradasaluted “the members of the Chamber who represent the Colombian people today, and the Congress gives us immense confidence for the government of change. These resources will improve the quality of life of many Colombians towards a dignified, decent life, in that sense that they have the opportunity to study, of health and of the country, and my respectful salute to the opposition with the criticism that demands that we get into more fights every day”.
Faced with requests from the opposition to take part in a pre-vote debate, the President of the House, David Rennerof the Historical Pact, warned: “We have already given the discussion, we are not going to open the discussion on a tax reform.”
For his part, Carolina Arbelaezof Cambio Radical, questioned: “I confirm our negative vote on this reform which will affect all classes, the poor, the middle class. invested because it can’t be that they want to invest $6 billion for an underground meter, and I hope that you, Treasury Secretary, will stay in this government until the last minute, facing the country after what’s about to happen.”
