Tomorrow, the procedure for the economic maneuver begins at the Chamber’s Budget Commission, with the opinion of the President of the Chamber to verify the content itself, or rather, on the articles or paragraphs that will eventually be removed from the text because they are not considered to be irrelevant to the budget law. The budget law, the group’s leaders’ conference instituted today, will reach the Chamber of Deputies on December 20 with pre-Christmas sessions scheduled until midnight. The center-right majority intends to send the text approved in the House to the Senate by December 25th.
Meanwhile, the unions are divided on a possible mobilization against the financial law: CGIL and UIL said they were in favor of putting initiatives in the field, while the CISL argues that it is “wrong to resort to strike” to resolve in a position of greater dialogue. The CGIL confirmed the ruling already handed down in recent days, referring to a “mistaken maneuver that needs to be changed and that does not respond to the country’s true emergencies, starting with the material condition of male and female workers, retired men and women, citizens”. While Cisl argues that it is wrong to resort to strikes against financial maneuvers, assemblies should be promoted in the workplaces and territories, to monitor the parliamentary process with a view to achieving concrete improvements. A further discussion is expected at Palazzo Chigi between Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni and unions on Dec. 7 to discuss the substance of the maneuver, starting with welfare policies and retirement options.
Time is running out. In less than 5 weeks, the maneuver will have to be analyzed by the Commission, the Chamber and the Senate, in order to be approved by the end of the year and not fall into the provisional exercise. But there are uncertainties. The deadline for submitting the amendments was set for 4.30 pm on the 7th of December, with the 11th of December being the deadline for nominating the most carefully selected candidates, which the majority would like to contain at 400. Oppositions, however, are due to random order, as the PD has already made known, will ask to discuss all the amendments presented in the Chamber. Text corrections, according to which filters, could arrive during the journey between the Commission and the classroom. The Women’s Option rule for early retirement may change. The government is already studying possible corrective measures to make the measure more inclusive, the subject was addressed during some informal meetings that also involved the Minister of Labor, Marina Calderone. For a possible change in pattern, however, it will be necessary to find suitable coverage.
