The head of state attended the event wearing a mask that he carried with him at all times and only removed to give his speech.
During the event, which took place at the Casa de Nariño, Gustavo Petro once again laid the foundations on which to build his pension reform.
In his speech, the head of state explained the pillar system proposed by his government, which links private and public resources, in an effort to arrive at a model that benefits the majority of the population.
“We have made a proposal Pillar system. It’s not my invention. It’s been talked about in the world. Many very conservative entities have presented it as moot, as viable,” he said.
And he added: “Many people accept that the most coherent thing is to have a pillar system, which is that the public fund is correlated with the private funds, that is, they are not two worlds apart.”
The president believed that the construction of this new model “will always depend on the productivity levels of an economy and the accumulation of wealth in a society, that is, on the level of work, it will always depend on that.”
“With the Secretary of Labour, Gloria Ines Ramirez – who has already started discussion rooms on this topic, where those who agree with us and those who do not enter –, and now with Jaime Dussán Calderón, as the space for the great pension discussion in Colombia has opened,” he pointed out to the president of the Republic.
