The opposition’s battle against the inclusion of the word “merit” in the name of the Ministry of Education comes up against the vote of the Chamber, which yesterday rejected all the amendments presented by the Pd, Alleanza Verdi Sinistra and Movimento 5 Stelle, with the contribution of the Third Pole that decided on the issue on the center-right side. The session in Montecitorio also had an unscheduled event due to the proposed modification presented by Riccardo Magi from Più Europa, who had asked for the inclusion of the word “humiliation” in the name of the department, mocking the controversy caused by the departure of Minister Giuseppe Valditara, who then retreated. An amendment, that of Magos, which the presidency of the Chamber declared inadmissible, provoking protests from the deputy Italia viva Roberto Giachetti. «Who decides what is irony or not? Starting tomorrow, this assessment can be made about anything», said Giachetti, «the president of the Chamber, in this case, has unquestionable power, the inadmissible amendment is no longer on the ballot. It is a very delicate matter, on which we must proceed with all the necessary precautions”.
As for the rejected amendments, the Chamber’s response did not appease the opposition’s protests. «Adding the word “merit” to the nomination of the Ministry of Education is an ideological choice and a bad sign. The truth is that this government wants to divert investments to the richest territories and to institutes attended by boys and girls who come from rich families», accused Elisabetta Piccolotti, of the Verdi Sinistra Alliance.
While the Democratic Party also criticized the removal of the words “ecological transition” from the Ministry of the Environment: “What worries us most is that this could be the expedient to dismantle the National Recovery and Resilience Plan, because we all know very well that 40 percent of the Pnrr’s resources must necessarily be allocated to projects and processes of ecological transition in its various aspects» defended the vice-president of the group Dem Simona Bonafè. While a new convergence between the Third Pole and the majority was registered in the Ministry of Justice , with the “Calendian-Renzians” who withdrew their amendments after the government decided to make them theirs with agendas.
