“Looting against the M5S”. Tell if you play the victim: we are the ones insulted

Many looked at the tones used by Giuseppe Conte after the death threats received by Giorgia Meloni. But the leader of the 5 Star Movement is not present and rejects any accusation against the sender in an interview with Corriere della Sera: “Those who accuse us are in bad faith. It is an instrumental controversy. With the Movement we try to interpret people’s discomfort and offer answers. Basic income comes from this awareness of the need for a social protection system. To dismantle it means to aggravate the difficulty, the frustration of the people. Accusing us of fomenting a climate of hatred is an act of plunder that has no rationale.”

The former prime minister again attacks the government: “Meloni used offensive and strong words against me during my presidency, Guido Crosetto himself uses them now. Meloni spoke to me with a lip that was never clarified. We are insulted and even want to accuse us of threats. It seems to me a completely inverted mechanism. We are radical but in terms of principles and values, in terms of ways of interpreting social malaise, we are constructive. To describe us as the welfare party of the South is to tell a story for fools who fall for it.”

“This maneuver – says Conte after the confrontation with Bonomi from Confindustria – is without vision, does not foresee any investment and, therefore, no possibility of growth for the companies. What worries both of us the most is that without investment measures for companies we end up losing competitiveness and this is a big problem for the country in perspective. We run the risk of going back to closing the rear of the power of real wages. The government is proudly convinced of these interventions, which will lead us to a recession. I don’t think there’s any dialog.” The tension between the two fronts does not abate.
